Day 9 - Cuba for the day

Sunday 9 September 2012

It was a bit cloudy when we woke up as we knew it would be so we decided to go in to Begur.  Maggie and David had explained that the festival in town was to celebrate people from Begur returning to Begur following their going to Cuba to make their fortunes.  To be honest it seems any reason is good enough for a party in Spain and we weren't complaining.

As we got in to Begur it was clear that everyone was enjoying the Cuba atmosphere, lots of people were dressed in white and wearing white hats and there was music, dancing and much mojito drinking.

There were lots of stalls selling their wares and food and drinks stalls.   It was a gorgeous day with blue skies all around us.  It was boiling in town.

There was a lady making cigars by hand, so bloody slow, i'm surprised we didn't get sunstroke waiting for her to finish.

We quickly got in to the spirit and bought some hats, thank goodness we did as they were amazing at keeping your head cool and the sun out of your face.

We stopped for some lunch in the main square and had Cuban tapas (no idea if it was or not), we sat outside with no shade but were saved by our magic hats!

Radio Begur were broadcasting from the stage in the square and there was lots of dancing going on, it was a really nice atmosphere and I feel we were so lucky to be out there while the festival was on.  Begur really is a lovely place and I'll definitely go back.  I was a bit worried about where we going having not really done mainland Spain before, my mind has been changed and I'll be recommending it.  Lovely people, lovely coastlines and lovely food.

We were lucky enough to be picked up by our personal taxi driver who had been watching bikes and F1 racing all day.  When we got back to the villa we all jumped in the pool to cool down and had a chilled afternoon.  We decided to go out for dinner and went to Tamiru (aka Tamiflu).  It's a pretty coastal spot with restaurants and tat shops all around it.

B and I visited every tat shop and then we had dinner in one of the restaurants.  There was a bit of rain but it didn't stop us having a lovely time.
